Hello, Kellogg families!

My name is Martine Haglund.  I am originally from Haiti and am entering my 22nd year in education. I have taught in the Humanities at the college level, Latin 5th-12th grades. I speak three languages, and I have learned an additional four.

At Rochester Public Schools, I worked as an equity specialist and assistant principal, and I was most recently the principal at Bamber Valley Elementary School. I am a certified restorative practice trainer of trainers with the International Institute of Restorative Practices. I completed the Minnesota Principals Academy (MPA) program through RPS and I am writing my dissertation to earn my doctoral degree in education through Bethel University on the Impact of discipline on Black and Latina girls in schools. I am collaborative, data-driven, and research-based in my approach to leading a school.  While my focus has changed over the years in education from the classroom to administration, I continue to create spaces for my school community, especially for students and staff who are marginalized racially, historically, and religiously.  Their experiences matter and often mirror my own as a Black immigrant woman in the struggle to create access and opportunity for students who belong to these communities.  I support all students who are under my care and value their authentic voices, freedom of expression, and justice-seeking drive for the pursuit of their joy and a better world. 

I live in Rochester with my husband, daughter, and our dog and we spend our time reading or listening to audiobooks, being immersed in Dungeons and Dragons (mainly my daughter), watching Netflix, hanging out with friends, and traveling (when time affords it).
